Book - 2021

"From quilting artist Sherilyn Mortensen, who is part of the Sew Kind of Wonderful team, comes this brand new book that's perfect for quilters of any skill level. Quilting Through the Year features four step-by-step quilting projects for every season - spring, summer, winter, and fall. Each design repeats, reshapes, or reorganizes the same or similar motifs, so once you've made a few blocks, the rest is a snap!.. Using traditionally cut geometric pieces with no circles and no curves, each design is approachable and fun for every quilter to achieve. "--

Review by Booklist Review

Mortenson's first quilting book covers 16 delightfully doable patterns for the four seasons. It begins with a basic description of the basics of quilting; included are a brief description of important tools and a helpful tutorial on different shapes (HSTs or Half Square Triangles, and QHSTs or Quarter Half Square Triangles) as well as binding specifics. The patterns eschew curves and circles, with the geometric forms used making the projects suitable for advanced beginners. The step-by-step instructions are excellent and accompanied by illustrations. Squares and rectangles comprise patterns like "juicy fruit" and the red, white, and blue "liberty" banner. Designs reflect the seasons, like "Robin Egg Blue" for spring, featuring a mama robin and hatching baby; three giant popsicles for "Summer Delight"; a Halloween-y "Pumpkin Spice" for fall; and "Frosty's Family," a winter pattern featuring snowmen in scarves. Especially appealing are the "Follow the Sun" sunflower pattern, the bright "Apple Crisp" design, and the festive "Three Trees." Quilters will find these squares-made-arty patterns inspiring.
