Vanderah's latest (after Where the Forest Meets the Stars, 2019) is all about shedding secrets. Riley is an orphan who lives with her cousins Alec and Sachi and their son, Kiran, in the countryside of Wisconsin. Nine years ago, Riley's aunt Julia died, and, shortly thereafter, her mother was murdered. Riley was devastated by the loss of her aunt more than that of her mom. Julia taught Riley about the moon and made everything feel magical while her mother, who was addicted to drugs, used her as a pawn to extort money out of Julia. One day, a famous writer, Vaughn Orr, visits the farm after his car suspiciously runs out of gas. Sachi, who is a fan of Vaughn's writing, allows him to stay with them and although Riley is initially distrustful, she also feels an instant connection to him. The chemistry between the two is undeniable and through a series of extremely tangled events, readers learn that the two have a lot in common, including their hometown and upbringing. Family, secrets, and drama are all woven into this fast-paced read. Diane Chamberlain and Emily Gunnis readers will enjoy this one.
