Review by Booklist Review

Cyd Sherman is having a really bad life. She is the least important violinist in her orchestra, her boyfriend is a jerk, and her therapist thinks she needs to get a life. So she does, though an avatar on an MMORPG (massively multiplayer online role-playing game) is probably not what he meant. This graphic novel is a prequel to Day's cult-favorite web TV series of the same name, and it is a testament to the creators' talents that readers need not be familiar with the show and its characters to enjoy the comic. All those who have ever felt left out of the world around them will understand and appreciate Cyd's problems, which are told with humor and a charming sense of obliviousness. Rugg employs a full-color version of the realistic style he adopted in Cecil Castellucci's The Plain Janes (2007) for Cyd's normal life and a softer, gentler approach for the game world. Even with the short page count, the tale is complete and engaging and should send fans new and old scurrying to the web for more of Cyd's adventures.--Wildsmith, Sno. Copyright 2010 Booklist
