Lemire (Berserker Unbound. Vol. 1) and illustrator Walsh (Star Wars: The Last Jedi Adaptation) bring together two very different superhero teams in this charming crossover event. After a malevolent stranger causes Abe Slam, Golden Gale, Colonel Weird, and their friends to switch places with several members of the Justice League, the Black Hammer crew is overjoyed to have finally escaped exile in the mysterious town of Rockwood…until the remaining Justice League members accuse them of being behind whatever is going on. Meanwhile, Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and Cyborg--all under the delusion that they've been trapped in Rockwood for ten years--struggle either to adapt to their new existence or to find a way home. Lemire evokes both humor and pathos as his large cast of characters clash, form unexpected bonds, and explore unknown universes. By the end, when all involved finally join forces to battle their mutual foe and restore order, it's clear this is much more than the typical flashy, yet empty crossover cash grab--it's a loving tribute to the genre. Collecting the entire five-issue miniseries. VERDICT A delight for fans of either series and a surprisingly great jumping-on point for new readers.
