Men are from mars, women are from venus

John Gray

eAudio - 2005

The national bestseller in its complete form. Once upon a time, Martians and Venusians met, fell in love, and had happy relationships together because they respected and accepted their differences. Then they came to Earth and amnesia set in: they forgot they were from different planets. Using this metaphor to illustrate the commonly occurring conflicts between men and women, Dr. John Gray explains how these differences can come between the sexes and prohibit mutually fulfilling, loving relations...hips. Based on years of successful counseling of couples and individuals, he gives advice on how to counteract these differences in communication styles, emotional needs and modes of behavior to promote a greater understanding between individual partners.

Gray's "new" unabridged version of the now modern classic title on relationships offers the listener nine hours and 30 minutes of the best advice that one will ever hear about comprehending the communication styles of men and women. Gray, author of Mars and Venus in the Bedroom and Mars and Venus Together Forever, explains how a Martian (man) and a Venusian (woman) can overcome differences and build a mutually fulfilling, loving relationship. He offers advice on how to move beyond these differences in communication styles, emotional needs, and ways of behavior to promote a greater understanding between both partners. If you have only one title on interpersonal relations and communication in marriage, this should be it. Highly recommended.?Marty D. When troubled or depressed, women ``go down into their wells, and men retreat into their caves,'' the author claims in this abridged version of his best-selling book. Gray uses such examples to demonstrate the common conflicts between men and women. Topics include communication differences; emotional needs and the different ways of expressing these needs; and forming and maintaining relationships. This adaptation, read competently by Gray, succinctly summarizes the text. Deborah Tannen's You Just Don't Understand: Talk Between the Sexes (S. & S. Audio, 1991) offers a more in-depth look at the different communication styles, although Gray's clinical experience is evident in his text. Without any research references, however, the material comes across as psychobabble. Recommended for public libraries where demand warrants.-- Dale Farris, Groves, Tex.
