Review by Publisher's Weekly Review

Miwa (Dogs) satisfyingly expands on the animated web series of the same name with a collection of action-packed manga vignettes. In the world of Remnant, Ruby, Weiss, Blake, and Yang are training to become Huntresses. Using weapons that wouldn't be out of place in a Final Fantasy game, Huntsmen and Huntresses destroy Grimm, creatures of evil that only exist to kill humans. Each member of team RWBY gets her own one-shot here, appealing to viewers of the show who want to go deeper into the backstory of favorite characters. Readers will learn how Weiss received her scar, be introduced to a new type of Grimm, and, in the collection's standout story, see RWBY join another team, JNPR, in a thrilling battle. Miwa's art captures the fast-paced nature of the fights from the animated original and the sillier aspects of the personalities on the team. The only disappointments are Yang and Blake's sections, which basically rehash trailers. Though this tie-in relies on background knowledge of the series, it will impress the show's eager fan base, as Miwa conveys the essence of RWBY, highlighting why it's become an international hit.
