Gr 1-3-These fairy tale mash-ups are told through simple sentences and cartoon drawings. Goldilocks gets caught up with the Big Bad Wolf while Red Riding Hood ends up in the Bears' house. Though the retellings are rather wooden, the comic sketches do have nice bits of humor, and there is diversity among the human characters not often found in adaptations. In addition to the standard back matter bits, a short history of each original tale and writing and discussion prompts are included in each. However, the small further reading suggestions are uneven, some featuring handsome picture book versions and others tending more to twisted tales. VERDICT Fun selections for popular reading and classroom use and discussion. © Copyright 2016. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc. No redistribution permitted.

Little Red Riding Hood goes to the wrong cottage and finds the three bears, while Goldilocks wanders into Grandmother's house. Puss in Boots needs a shoemaker to fix up his old boots. Neither folktale "mix-up" is very clever, though both illustrators introduce diversity in the cartoonish portrayals. Background information on each book's two source tales and writing prompts are appended. Reading list. Glos.
