Imagine Hellboy in the mid-1950s in Mexico on assignment to clean up a hellish "leak" of demons, witches, werewolves, mummies, and fabricated human monsters created by a disturbed Aztec deity. Now imagine that while south of the border he is teamed with monster-killing, spandex-wearing Mexican wrestlers all the while binging on the local drinks every night. This memoir (with fuzzy alcoholic edges) is a collection of several stories linked together to explain this distinct paranormal mission. Can Hellboy save his friends and demolish the minions of the underworld, or collapse in an inebriated stupor until it all blows over? Verdict This well-drawn, well-paced saga will not disappoint Hellboy fans. The coloring gets a bit too somber at times, but overall the collection of award-winning artists (Corben, Gabriel Bá, Fábio Moon, and Mick McMahon) provide plenty of visual stimulation. Nifty bonus pages of work-up sketches and paintings included.-Russell Miller, Prescott P.L., AZ © Copyright 2016. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc.
