Young Irene Adler again joins her friends Sherlock Holmes and Arséne Lupin in a caper involving codes, disguises, cryptic clues, murder, revenge, and nighttime rendezvous in seedy neighborhoods. First come coded newspaper messages, then, roses are left beside two London corpses. Has the Red Rose Gang, a group of thieves last heard from 20 years ago, risen again or is something even darker afoot? Broad hints that one uncaptured member of the original gang was a government official, plus a casual mention of the name Moriarty at the end, point to future exploits for the intrepid trio of teen sleuths.--Peters, John Copyright 2010 Booklist
