Review by Booklist Review
From sled dogs to therapy dogs to prison puppies, the books in the Dog Heroes series fulfill every dog lover's need for more, more, more about humankind's best friend. Oh, Shelter Dogs. They break your heart. Luckily, this title focuses on inspiring post-rescue events. This title presents basic information about shelters before introducing a former stray, yellow Lab Riley, who helped search for survivors after the 2011 earthquake and tsunami hit Japan, and others. Full-color photos throughout accent the amazing stories, with small sidebar boxes offering facts. Dogs are heroes; we know that. But these books are a welcome reminder.--Kelley, Ann Copyright 2010 Booklist

These series entries introduce two types of "dog heroes": in Science, dogs are studied to aid beneficial scientific discoveries and innovations; Shelter discusses how unwanted dogs can go on to do remarkable things for humans after they're adopted. The volumes are accessible, with numerous photographs and interesting personal anecdotes rounding out the texts. Reading list, websites. Bib., glos., ind.
