When very muddy and mostly gigantic dinosaurs need a bath, where do they go? To the Deluxe Dino Wash, of course! Each full-bleed spread depicts colorful dinosaurs getting cleaned up. A different friendly dinosaur, correctly identified, gets an individual scrub and shampoo by several children, be it by hose, scrub brush, or sponge. Giant automated whirling brushes shine up Styracosaurus' frill, and hoses rinse off beaked Quetzalcoatlus. Huge soap tubes and funnels help the children clean Stegosaurus, who is finicky about his fins, demanding that they be clean as dinner plates! Anticipated with shudders, the Big Guy thuds up, with teeth long as daggers, and snaps, Give me the works! Turns out T. rex is the fearful one, afraid of getting soap in his eyes. The bright and colorful illustrations are both humorous and packed with details. Correct pronunciation and facts about the eight dinosaurs appear in the back pages. This delightful and humorous romp makes a great pairing for those fascinated with both the car-wash experience and prehistoric creatures.--Gepson, Lolly Copyright 2010 Booklist

PreS-Gr 2-A humorous read-aloud that introduces children to a varied assortment of dinosaurs. Working at the Dino Wash Deluxe is a super-duper job-a-saurus for one small boy who "soaps 'em, scrubs 'em, and sends 'em down the line for rinsing and drying." Each dinosaur appreciates the individual care and excellent service ("you gotta know the customers!"). But when an Ankylosaurus warns the boy that a giant Tyrannosaurus rex, "a huge dinosaur with a nasty reputation and really sharp teeth," is in town, he keeps his focus and bravery. To his surprise, the little boy learns that the T. rex isn't as scary at all; he's just afraid of getting soap in his eyes. Vibrant, colorful illustrations fill each spread; they will surely capture children's attention, especially the expressions on each dinosaur's face. The story is appended with comical, yet authentic thumbnail drawings of each creature, along with a pronunciation guide and facts for young dinosaur scholars. This is a solid purchase for dinosaur-crazed children, reminding them that tough guys might not always be as intimidating as they seem. Pair it with Jane Yolen's "How Do Dinosaurs." series (Scholastic) or Karen Beaumont's Dini Dinosaur (HarperCollins, 2012) for a double-dino delight.-Krista Welz, North Bergen High School, NJ (c) Copyright 2013. The young owner of Dino Wash Deluxe knows "you gotta know the customers!" Every dinosaur is different, every cleaning job unique. With this in mind, the boy uses goggles to put mean T. rex, worried about getting soap in his eyes, at ease. Though generic, illustrations of unthreatening dinosaurs and the accompanying requisite dinosaur facts will appeal to reluctant bathers and dinosaur fans alike. (c) Copyright 2013. A fanciful dinosaur wash that's more than a little reminiscent of DreamWorks' Shark Tale. An adorably round-faced little boy in yellow coveralls is readers' guide to the Dino Wash Deluxe, and the narration is delightfully kidlike: "this job's no picnic--you gotta know the customers! No two dinos are alike, and they all need scrub-a-dubbing." Each knob and spike on Ankylosaurus must be washed, polishing the frill and horns on Styracosaurus takes an hour...and Tyrannosaurus rex is in town! When the "Big Guy" shows up (in a description festooned with simile), the youngster bravely welcomes him, his stutter and pauses broadcasting his fear. Sure enough, T-Rex gets right in his face, the font matching the dinosaur's size and anger. But the little boy has pegged him correctly--T-Rex doesn't like soap in his eyes--and he devolves into a whimpering baby. But no worries, the little boy has just the solution. The dinosaur names are printed in a different color within the text, and backmatter provides a short paragraph of information about each one. Pamintuan's artwork ably matches the text, each brilliantly colored dinosaur a distinct individual. Perspective, size, body language and facial expression all play a role in capturing the story's moods. The boy's co-workers are a nice mix of genders, though they lack racial/cultural diversity. A romping-stomping choice for dinosaur lovers and those similarly afraid of soap in their eyes. (Picture book. 3-7)]] Copyright Kirkus Reviews, used with permission.
