Each large-format book in the Discover More series offers hundreds of colorful illustrations and small parcels of information related to a range of broad topics. Drawn from a great many sources, the illustrations (mainly photos) are often quite good, though some are too small to be useful. The heavy, glossy pages allow for excellent clarity. Each double-page spread introduces a new topic, typically with a few sentences of text and 6 to 10 captioned pictures. The back matter, which includes a glossary but no sources, is disappointing in a book for this grade level. Bound using somewhat stiff but flexible covers with a shiny coating, the books' durability falls somewhere between paperbacks and hardbound volumes. Not to be confused with Arlon's 2007 book with the same title, Weather offers plenty of factoids for browsers as well as some dramatic photos. However, the spreads that are crowded with several types of type font and overlapping text look cluttered. Recommended as supplemental material for larger libraries. Copyright 2013 Booklist Reviews.

Review by Publisher Summary 3
Every year, stories of extreme weather events dominate the news. This book not only informs children about different types of weather but helps them understand how weather systems are connected. Case studies that run throughout the book give eyewitness accounts of weather disasters and a final section includes weather heroes from meteorologists to storm chasers. The digital book tells you how to be a weather forecaster. Structured layouts, age-appropriate vocabulary, and infographics make this book a great informational text at school and at home.
