Review by Library Journal Review

The old dogs are back to their unconventional tricks in Season 6 of this popular and long-running British police drama (see LJ 9/15/11). Det. Supt. Sandra Pullman (Amanda Redman) continues in her role as den mother to recovering alcoholic Brian Lane (Alun Armstrong), soft-spoken widower Jack Halford (James Bolam), and recalcitrant Gerry Standing (Dennis Waterman) as they go about solving cold cases brought to their special London metropolitan police unit. Originally aired on BBC Television in 2009, these eight episodes stick with the winning formula of contemporary story lines combining both light suspense and humor, with an engaging ensemble cast. A shocking discovery by Pullman in the final episode leaves room for a continuation of the series, with Season 7 up next (ISBN 9781598287783) and seasons 8, 9, and 10 already in the wings. VERDICT Although the writing and acting are somewhat predictable, audiences will enjoy the development of the four main characters' back-stories, along with glimpses of London's diverse neighborhoods and subcultures.-Linda Frederiksen, Washington State Univ.
