Gr. 3-6. Did you know that only ants born with wings are able to mate? Did you know that a horse drinks between 10 and 20 gallons of water every day? Volumes in the new Face-to-Face series present a wealth of intriguing facts about familiar animals.Each volume focuses on one particular species, discussing its habitat, members, behavior, and mating habits. The information, if not enough for thorough reports, is presented clearly, and the accompanying photographs will hold the interest of even very young children. A short quiz at the end of each volume will help kids remember what they've learned and also draw the attention of reluctant readers. A visually pleasing resource for libraries wanting to enhance animals books collections. --Heather Hepler

This introductory overview of the ant's life cycle and habits pairs a brief paragraph of text with oversize color photos of ants in action. However, the photos donÆt match the text, and switching back and forth between text and photos and captions confuses the flow of information.
