Review by Library Journal Review

This volume takes a different tack from other knitting instruction books, which usually start the fledgling knitter off with a scarf or a simple sweater. British knitwear designer Birkett instead teaches a variety of common knitting techniques, including the familiar knit-and-purl patterns, along with less common knitting techniques like ruching and smocked knitting, with each instructional chapter featuring a stylish home decor project. Projects include pillows, throws, bathmats, and table runners. Inexplicably, information on yarns used in the projects is collected at the back of the book instead of being included with each pattern. This project directory section also includes suggestions for alternative yarns if the yarns employed in the book are no longer available. Large public libraries with strong knitting collections will want this one. (c) Copyright 2010. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc. No redistribution permitted.
