Gr. 1-2. Since it was first published in 1966, this book has served as both a simple introduction to the game of football and an easy reader. Now, Kessler has re-illustrated the story in full color. Libraries that have the older version will want to update, and others will want to purchase this story about a group of animals who organize a football game after watching a young team at play. After a group of animal friends watches a boys' football team play, they are eager to have their own game. An apple serves as a ball until Frog eats it; a paper-bag football works until Duck kicks and pops it. The game is kept alive when a real football from the boys' game sails into the animals' midst. This simply told story with plenty of sports action is reillustrated with full-color artwork. From HORN BOOK 1996, (c) Copyright 2010.
