Les Payne

Leslie Payne (July 12, 1941 – March 19, 2018) was an American journalist. He served as an editor and columnist at ''Newsday'' and was a founder of the National Association of Black Journalists. Payne received a Pulitzer Prize in 1974 for his investigative reporting, and, with daughter Tamara Payne, the 2020 National Book Award for Nonfiction and the 2021 Pulitzer Prize for Biography for his biography ''The Dead Are Arising: The Life of Malcolm X''.
